Torch of Hekate Phosphorus Part 4: Fire of Tannin

“I am both feminine and masculine as the two serpents represent both. As the energy carried from Lotan is containing both, the embodiment of this dragon is the released and materialized current of both.” -Tannin

Background

Tannin  is a word found in the Hebrew Bible that is often translated into English as “dragon,” “sea monster,” “serpent,” or “whale.” Modern scholars explain that the meaning depends on its connection. From a monstrous sea creatures, powerful serpents or reptiles, primordial chaotic forces subdued by God, and/or a metaphorical beings like Satan in later texts.

According to biblical encyclopedias, in ancient Hebrew tannin appears 14 times in the Hebrew Bible and gets various translations like dragon, serpent, or sea-monster. The Greek Septuagint often translates tannin as Drakōn, from which the English word “dragon” comes.  In Genesis 1:21, “great tanninim” are created on the fifth day; this phrase is sometimes rendered “great sea creatures,” but the imagery connects to powerful, chaotic beings.

In Exodus 7:9–12, the staff of Aaron becomes a tannin — this is often translated as “serpent” or “monster” rather than just an ordinary snake.  In other passages in Psalms, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah, tannin can refer to crocodiles, sea monsters, or even symbolic representations of empires.  In the Book of Revelation (New Testament), the Greek derivative drakōn (dragon) represents Satan — a powerful evil being.  Tannin isn’t just a biological creature — it’s tied to ancient Near Eastern mythology and symbolism.  In Jewish tradition, tannin and similar sea monsters like Leviathan and Rahab are associated with primordial chaos before divine order. In broader Semitic myth, cognates of tannin refer to dragon-like sea monsters — for example, tunnanu in Ugaritic. In the Baal Cycle a key Ugaritic epic, tunnanu appears as one of the servants of the sea god Yam.

“I was not always a dragon, yet I became one due to my primordial power. Where Lotan is the invisible form of energy transference, I am the visible materialization of that energy. The light from the lightning bolt. The heat from fire or the cold from the wind. Thus, my force is felt in the senses and is the outcome of released energy. My gnosis comes with deep responsibility as it is meant as a constructive force. Yet if used for destructive means, will slowly eat away at the wielder consuming him/her. Therefore, I do not often work with humanity. I will help navigate you forward but with a price. The price is to see you crumble only to rise awakened new. It is time for all your walls to fall. To allow you to spread your wings. Speak the truth of who you are and face the responses. This is important for your growth on the path of the Draconian Magi.

The words I give here are not for everyone, yet the wisdom of the working should be shared. For I am a force of reckoning. The transmutation of invisible yet material energy into visual form. This act of force awakens one to a higher or lower nature. The vibrational flow of my energy is resonant with the release of energy. Why my flow is balanced by the force of Lotan in the sphere of Samael and the sphere A’arab Zuraq. As the energies are brought through Samael and flow to Aarab Zuraq, based on the eruption of emotion will determine the form. It took you longer to arrive at my gate due to not overcoming or ruling your own emotions. That is why Samael and Hecate held you back from my gate. Having you here means this you have overcome. Know the true guardians of A’arab Zuraq are the ravens which would have eaten away at you if you brought that energy. For them it is their food. That is why the saying when you fight from anger, you already have lost.

The raw emotion in this sphere should be to overcome and move forward raising your energy to the Sephiroth of Victory. Since the beginning of time, I was depicted as chaos and destruction, yet my nature is a creative and constructive force. My source of power is materialization of emotions. The energy that takes form in love and hate, as those of Eros and Thanatos. I am the charged conduit of passionate expression. When something is bottled up, I am that released form. The orgasm manifested. The physical lightning bolts. Why visual and sensory energy flow through A’arab Zuraq. These things will come apparent as you have felt them.

You and I are different. I work to maintain my strength to match my spirit. Currently you do not. You must build your body. In Samael he taught you to rule and awaken your truth, to have it bubble up. In Aarab Zuraq you bring all this to my light. To overcome you must make your physical body aligned with your spirit.

Then you will be able to overcome the emotional body. Part of my role as protector is to see this happen and if not, keep those from proceeding. The illusion of the self is broken with the poison from Samael, and the truth is liberated in Aarab Zuraq. The Ravens of dispersion are the aspects of self, evolving into your higher truth. Their wings carry the emotions released. That is why all energy felt by senses released from an action are mine. My sigil a key to Aarab Zuraq. Knowing how you enter with your intention will determine how you are approached. If your intention is neutral, you will pass through, yet if not, then the ravens will destroy that part of you that holds onto the emotion for it to be released. Therefore, Hecate warned you to get your emotions in check before proceeding. Many do not follow this and end up mentally and emotionally broken. For one must fly on the wings of the raven overcoming personal storms to see if they truthfully serve you. This knowledge is my gift to you for writing this work.

I am awakened consciousness from the rising kundalini. My sigil signifies this as the two serpents coming together awakening site at the third eye giving light to the unseen truth. Therefore, my gnosis awakens those things that are hidden. The light given from the energy of Lotan, I transform it into physical reality. Through the senses, this is my force of creation. The destruction is the transformation of old to new energies. The wings in the sigil represent the air that carries my force. As you saw the yellowish mist started to consume you. The air carried me like ravens feasting on your emotions. What we feed on is the energy from your emotions and what is released from it comes in action such as violence, passion, crying, and screaming are examples. This is the way of Aarab Zuraq as it brings hidden emotions to become known.

Your deep-seated emotions and anger are seated in the ability to control an outcome against the external forces. These forces can be people or groups. These can also be elements. When you work to inspire, you ignite passion. Those inspired will seek to know you and build community with you. Coming from a stance of anger when it is not to protect, is a weakness and an act of control. Let go of that and embrace your truth and inspire others with it. This is how Samael and Aarab Zuraq balance each other. Lotan is the rising force, and I am the released energy taking form through physical, chemical, or energetic action. This is part of my gnosis. Integrate it and we will walk together. Ignore these forces and you will continue to negatively shape your road ahead. Ignoring our energies, the external forces then control you instead of you controlling your choices. Thus, the image you see of the smoldering volcano waiting to erupt.

I bestow upon you this final lesson. It is here and now you understand my gnosis. Yet it is the integration of it that will burn bright, your fire on your path to Thegarion and Tiamat. For it is the understanding of emotion and the impact of their fires that will ignite the black sun within you. Tiamat is the awakener of its gates as well as the spirit of the balance here that holds the upper and lower half of the Qlipoth together. My materialization of war and passion will aid in overcoming obstacles while embracing desire through passion. Let this be my final lesson to you to pass on to others who wish to carry my fire.”

Tannin Praxis

Purpose:  The purpose of this rite is to invoke the fires of Tannin to gain his gnosis. Tannin's fire is one of Hecate's keys to the sphere of A'arab Zaraq in the underworld/Qliphoth.

Tools:

Two black tealight/candle

Lancet to anoint the sigil

The Sigil of Hecate (Created by Asenath Mason) and The Sigil of Tannin. It is recommended to draw them on paper or paint them on canvas. Doing so allows your energy to flow into its creation.

Dagger-(Only used for creating the ritual container) Do not use your dagger in the invocations of any of the dragons. How you approach them is how they will approach you and with a dagger can create complications.

The Invocation

Day 1.

Ritual Prep:

Set up the sigil on an and alter/table facing west and a black tealight next to it. Take a salt shower/bath or ritual bath prior to the invocation. It prepares the mind, body, and spirit for the ritual.

Ritual:

Creating the ritualistic container: Starting in the west and ending in the west making, using a dagger, I would walk counterclockwise drawing the circle.  As I walked, I said these words. “I cast this circle of Leviathan around, entwined and bound, above and below to protect the energies so.” Finish by drawing a flaming trident to seal the space.

Meditation:

After you say the words, sit down.    Focus on the sigil for a few minutes. When you have the sigil memorized, close your eyes. See the sigil rise out of the grown in gold and silver with flames wrapping around the edges. See the sigil morph and return to its shape and open.   Begin chanting Vovin three times and then Tannin three times. Keep chanting until you feel the energies shift.  If accepted Tannin will request you to sit with your left hand up and your right hand down. As you do, feel energy pouring into your body through your left hand and out your right. Turn you right hand up. With both hands facing upward, feel energy rising from both. The transference was complete. Allow any experience to unfold.

Inner Temple Meditation:

See before you a black door with a silver handle. You have seen this door before, it is to your temple door. Open the door and step in. The torch light flickers on the wall as you see your table, chair and mirror. In the center of the room you see your source flame burning bright. Walk toward it and take a log and place it on the flames. As you do this, the torches on the walls flare up and back down. Turn to the left corner of the room. You see stairs going down into the ground.  Next to the stairs is a doorway to another room. Walk into the room. Small torches line the wall. Looking at them, each torch has a frame of a dragon.  The light in the room is coming from a fire pit in the middle of the room, Leviathan's, Typhons, and Lotan’s torch. You see logs next to the fire. Take one and say the name Tannin and place it on the fire.  This action causes one of the torches to ignite.  If Tannin appears, allow the experience to unfold.

Closing:

Call to Hekate/Hecate to guide you back home. See if she has any messages for you.

Once back, say: "It is done"

Leave the candle vigil in honor of Tannin

Cast the sigil of fiery trident in reverse to open the space.
