Torch of Hekate/Hecate  Phosphoros Part 6: Fire of Tiamat

“Ode to the dragon Goddess Tiamat, for it were not for her, we would not be.”

Background

Tiamat is one of the most powerful and complex figures in ancient Mesopotamian mythology. Originating in Babylonian creation stories, she embodies primordial chaos, the untamed forces of nature, and the generative power of the sea. Over time, Tiamat became a symbol of cosmic disorder opposing divine order, a theme that deeply influenced later mythological traditions.  Tiamat appears most prominently in the Enūma Eliš, the Babylonian creation epic composed around the late second millennium BCE. In this story, the universe begins as a mingling of two primordial waters: Apsu, the freshwater abyss, and Tiamat, the saltwater sea. From their union, the first generation of gods is born.

Initially, Tiamat functions as a maternal figure, giving birth to the gods and sustaining creation. However, conflict arises when the younger gods become noisy and disruptive. Apsu seeks to destroy them, but is slain instead. This act fundamentally alters Tiamat’s role in the myth, transforming her from a generative mother into a force of vengeance and chaos.  After Apsu’s death, Tiamat prepares for war against the younger gods. She creates an army of monstrous beings—serpents, dragons, and hybrid creatures—and appoints her new consort Kingu as her champion, granting him the Tablet of Destinies, a symbol of supreme authority.

In this phase of the tale, Tiamat is described in increasingly monstrous terms. While early references emphasize her identity as the sea itself, later descriptions portray her as a massive dragon or serpent, embodying uncontrollable natural forces such as floods, storms, and the abyss.  This shift reflects a broader mythological pattern in which chaos, often personified as a female entity, must be subdued by a younger male god representing order and kingship.  The gods eventually choose Marduk, a storm god and patron deity of Babylon, to confront Tiamat. In exchange for absolute authority over the divine assembly, Marduk agrees to face her.  Their battle is cosmic in scale. Marduk defeats Tiamat using wind and weapons, splitting her body in two. From her remains, he creates the ordered universe.  One half forms the sky the other becomes the earth.

Her eyes release the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.  This act establishes Marduk as king of the gods and legitimizes Babylon’s political supremacy. Tiamat’s death thus becomes both a cosmogonic event and a political metaphor.  Tiamat is often interpreted as apersonification of primordial chaos, a mother goddess whose creative power predates divine hierarchy, and a symbol of nature’s destructive and generative duality.   Modern scholars also note the gendered implications of the myth. Tiamat’s defeat by Marduk has been interpreted as reflecting the transition from older, possibly matriarchal or nature-centered belief systems to patriarchal, state-centered religion.  Though Tiamat disappeared from worship as Babylonian religion evolved, her influence endured. She appears frequently in modern fantasy literature, role-playing games, and popular culture as an archetypal dragon or chaos deity.

In contemporary interpretations, Tiamat is often reclaimed not merely as a villain but as a symbol of suppressed primordial power and feminine divinity.  Tiamat stands as one of the earliest known representations of cosmic chaos in human mythology. Her story reflects ancient attempts to understand creation, disorder, and the origins of authority. Whether viewed as a monstrous enemy of the gods or as a primordial mother whose power was feared and subdued, Tiamat remains a foundational figure in the history of myth and religion.

“My heart is the black sun in Thagirian. Those that enter here will sacrifice their false truths to it is light so the divine true nature may take manifestation. Some call this the higher self in the Qliphoth. Your true spark will be able to shine as the false aspects will be devoured by its flames. This can be painful. Yet my heart is the beating force of existence. All creator’s world falsely neglects it, yet I am the mother of you all, dragons of the world and the draconian current. My fire burns for you to rule your truth. Those that walk the path will find the greatest boon. Yet all honor my existence by living in it. I am all the elements combined. This is my primordial nature. Yet I desire, like you all to ascend and honor my Sun as a dragon of transformation. My heart is not just the force of existence, for I am the Goddess of existence.

The black flame comes from my heart, the seed of creation they call it. As you have worked with Lilith gaining her fire of passion and fuel for work, Lucifer in his flame of knowledge and the ascending gnosis, Hecate in her fire of will and wisdom, the black flame is the seed of existence/creation. I have lord Set as the protector of its blaze. Fiercest warrior of the Gods.  When the black flame is tied with intention, the flames become manifestation. With the Qliphoth held in the unconscious, the ascending flame gives the magician the knowledge of how to create in the Absu of watery consciousness. This was always my gift to you, Vovin. This is part of my gnosis and ability in Thagirian as you burn away your untruths.

So grows your light and darkness propelling you forward. This is and will always be your path through the nightside of my existence. While Lucifer is the Emperor of the Nightside, I am the governess and beholder of its existence. My life blood flows through all of creation above and below. What you see as magma and fire is my blood creating and destroying all at once. This is my primordial power.  From my body, the cosmos formed, yet my energy and spirit reside in all. My presence is heavy as existence is so. My force of wisdom is that of the jackal and the hare.  To feed the flow of existence with life and death. The balance of existence resides in the land as transformation is the key to evolution. My heart awakens one to it.

The black sun that gives life to the voice so that it exists. This is the secret to my tenants. To protect the void and all its creation is to protect my flame of existence. By carrying the flame, you protect it within. Your spirit ensuring its existence in the cosmos. Yet now it burns that which holds you from your truth causing many around you to flee. After the actualization you attract those that honor your truth by the very same fire. The destruction and creation of my gnosis and existence. We will work on this in the weeks ahead, be ready for change. All the untruths that burn away form, what you have read from Sorath the Anti-Christ. As he embodies all that is your falsehoods. The imbalance of everything untrue of our soul’s nature. We honor him for taking on these aspects of self. Belphegor who rules here, helps in the process of letting go of these untruths.

Never exchange your spiritual freedom for materialistic gain. Since the beginning of time, I have watched you all wallow in pity and shame. My heart rips away those that cause pity and the shame. It is for the good of the magician and the other person. I then bring together that which ignites your spirit and includes all that serves its function. Then once moving the spirit will attract into its path all that will support your walk on the path of night. This is my gift to those who honor my fire. I will honor yours in return. Then those rulers in the Qliphothic path will be your guides and teachers. Be mindful of what I said about exchanging your spiritual nature for material gain. This includes wealth, sex, or prestige. For these teachers will bless or curse you. Honor your intentions and you will pass unharmed.

As it is written, I was destroyed by Marduk. The truth is I was never destroyed. I gave of myself to Marduk as a consort and he betrayed me. As I lay beneath him, he impaled me in both pleasure and in my chest giving death. Creating the essence of both life and death. From my body formed the cosmos and from my blood all of creation. It flows to this day within the earth and the planets. For it is this polarity and constant cycle of life and death that all exists. That also is my source of power, the flow of opposites in harmony to all things. Outside of my existence lays eternity where there is no life or death, just a constant flow. Time was created from the cycles of my black heart, the black sun. As it pulses, it moves the spheres, the planets, and dark matter. All matter is tied to life and death polarity like the north and south pole.

The frequencies move in orbit to my hearts beat. This is my cosmic aspect on a grand scale. Outside of the sphere of life and death polarity, there is no time. Only the solar winds from my black sun.  You demand respect, yet you have it. You honor others and they honor you back. They respect you, own it and accept it. Do not disrespect it. Share your passion of life. For if it is in passion we should seek to find fulfillment. It is to live life passionately and by doing so fulfillment finds you in your actions and purpose. This will help in shedding the untruths. When you accept my black sun, you receive full acceptance of the polarized sun. Awakening the full potential of the creative force of the sacral.

Tiamat Praxis

Purpose:  The purpose of this rite is to invoke the fires of Tiamat to gain her gnosis. Tiamat's fire is one of Hecate's keys to the sphere of Thagirion in the underworld/Qliphoth.

Tools:

Two black tealight/candle

Lancet to anoint the sigil

The Sigil of Hecate (Created by Asenath Mason) and The Sigil of Tiamat. It is recommended to draw them on paper or paint them on canvas. Doing so allows your energy to flow into its creation.

Dagger-(Only used for creating the ritual container) Do not use your dagger in the invocations of any of the dragons. How you approach them is how they will approach you and with a dagger can create complications.

The Invocation

Day 1.

Ritual Prep:

Set up the sigils on an and alter/table facing west and a black tealight next to it. Take a salt shower/bath or ritual bath prior to the invocation. It prepares the mind, body, and spirit for the ritual.

Ritual:

Creating the ritualistic container: Starting in the west and ending in the west making, using a dagger, I would walk counterclockwise drawing the circle.  As I walked, I said these words. “I cast this circle of Leviathan around, entwined and bound, above and below to protect the energies so.” Finish by drawing a flaming trident to seal the space.

Light the candle and anoint the sigil with your blood

Focus on the sigil for a few minutes. When you have the sigil memorized, close your eyes. See the sigil rise out of the grown in gold and silver with flames wrapping around the edges. See the sigil morph and return to its shape and open. Begin chanting Vovin three times and then Hecate three times. Keep chanting until you feel the energy shift. Sit or lay down and see what comes to you.  Write down any experiences in your journal.

Closing:

Call to Hekate/Hecate to guide you back home. See if she has any messages for you.

Meditation:

After you say the words, sit down.    Focus on the sigil for a few minutes. When you have the sigil memorized, close your eyes. See the sigil rise out of the grown in gold and silver with flames wrapping around the edges. See the sigil morph and return to its shape and open.   Begin chanting Vovin three times and then Tiamat three times. Keep chanting until you feel the energies shift.  If accepted Tiamat will request you to sit with your left hand up and your right hand down. As you do, feel energy pouring into your body through your left hand and out your right. Turn you right hand up. With both hands facing upward, feel energy rising from both. The transference was complete. Allow any experience to unfold.

Inner Temple Meditation:

See before you a black door with a silver handle. You have seen this door before, it is to your temple door. Open the door and step in. The torch light flickers on the wall as you see your table, chair and mirror. In the center of the room you see your source flame burning bright. Walk toward it and take a log and place it on the flames. As you do this, the torches on the walls flare up and back down. Turn to the left corner of the room. You see stairs going down into the ground.  Next to the stairs is a doorway to another room. Walk into the room. Small torches line the wall. Looking at them, each torch has a frame of a dragon.  The light in the room is coming from a fire pit in the middle of the room, Leviathan's, Typhon's, Lotan's, and Tannin's torch. You see logs next to the fire. Take one and say the name Tiamat and place it on the fire.  This action causes one of the torches to ignite.  If Tiamat appears, allow the experience to unfold.

Come back here to care for the flame by adding logs to it. You will find the more you do, the more you sense your own energy as well as Tiamat's. Know from this day Tiamat walks with you

Closing:

Call to Hekate/Hecate to guide you back home. See if she has any messages for you.

Once back, say: "It is done"

Leave the candle vigil in honor of Tiamat

Cast the sigil of fiery trident in reverse to open the space.
